     John Francis Healy married Edna Mae Smith in 1925. John and Edna met at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He was studying to be a mechanical engineer and she was a fashion illustrator. He was writing to Edna for three years but Edna's mother was intercepting the mail. Finally, he got a hold of her and asked her to marry him. They went to city hall. When they told her mother, she fainted. Afterwards, she said" If you're going to get married , you'll do it in my house". So, she had a reception for them in two days. When they went to CT to Gram Katie's six months later, she said, " If you're going to get married you're going to do it here." and they had another ceremony. Edna joked that she got married three times. Gram Katie was cool toward John's family because Edna was a Protestant.20,18,21 John was always referred to as the black sheep of the family. He had some sort of falling out with his family and moved to Buffalo, NY when he was quite young.20

A servant, Birdie Dunne (did they misspell Bridie?), age 20, was also employed in the household.      John Francis Healy died on 19 April 1956 at age 58 John died at a moment when Father Joe, his brother, was on a long-planned trip to Rome. There was a big debate at the time about whether to call Joe, who had married, baptized, and buried Healeys and Healeys for decades, and interrupt his vacation. His brother Ray met Joe at Idlewild Airport (now JFK) to break the news..20
