Also, his two nephews, Tom and Harry Mahony (sons of his brother, Fred) were living there.4 He resided in 1881 When John first came to the United States, he lived with his sister, Eliza and her family at reynolds Bridge, in the southern part of Thomaston, Connecticut.28 He immigrated in 1881 to United States and was a naturalized citizen.9 He resided in April 1885 at Waterbury, Connecticut.29
     John Walter Mahony married Ella Jane Wightman, daughter of Maria L. Wightman, on 7 April 1885 at Waterbury, Connecticut. They were joined in marriage by the Reverend John G. Davenport. Licensed and recorded by Walter L. Barber.5,30,31,32 John Walter Mahony resided in 1894 at off River Road, Simonsville, Waterbury, Connecticut.33

Edwin's wife was Hallie, age 40, and their chidren were Clarence, 14, Eva M., 11, and Edna B., 8.6 John Walter Mahony and Ella Jane Wightman resided in June 1900 at Wightman Place (Hopeville), Waterbury, Connecticut, with John's mother-in-law, Maria Wightman, and their two daughters, Mable and Ruth.6,34

Due to a heart attack, he moved to Milford.36,15
     John Walter Mahony filled out a military census form on 19 February 1917 in Milford, Connecticut. The Connecticut “Military Census” was taken in 1917–1918 at the direction of the General Assembly with an eye to assessing manpower available for war and other resources in the state. The census included surveys on agriculture, factories, and even automobiles, but the forms included here are questionnaires filled out by men ages 16 and over. The census was much more than a simple name count, and these questionnaires asked for details in a number of areas: name, post office address, trade or profession, agemarital status, number of dependents, citizenship,military service, and physical disability.They also asked men to report on various skills, including whether they could ride a horse or drive a team, ride a motorcycle, operate a wireless, handle a steam engine or a boat, or swim well. (an unknown value.)37

Wightman.8 John Walter Mahony and Ella Jane Wightman resided in 1926 at 16 Elm, Milford, Connecticut, with their daughter, Ruth.38
     John Walter Mahony, age 69, appears as head of household in the census of 26 April 1930 in 24 Crown Street, Milford, Connecticut, with Ruth Hull Mahony.9 John's grandnephew, Allen Morrissey recalled the time his brother, Dick, was getting his teeth drilled. The drills were very thick back then and white smoke would come from the drill. He said as his brother's teeth were getting drilled, he began slinking lower and lower in his chair until he ran out the door followed by his mother and his uncle chasing him.39 John Walter Mahony resided in 1937 at 16 Elm, rear, Milford, Connecticut.40
     John Walter Mahony died on 1 August 1940 at Milford, Connecticut, at age 79.41,15
