It was not a large business and was carried out in the home. in 1884 in Waterbury, Connecticut.27,9
     Joshua Mahony Jr. and Eliza Ann Travis Littlehales resided in 1884 at Wall Street, Waterbury, Connecticut.28 Joshua Mahony Jr. was a mechanic in July 1886 at Waterbury, Connecticut.29 Joshua was a mechanic in 1886 in Waterbury, Connecticut.30 The Waterbury Street Directory showed that Joshua was employed by West. S. Umbria which sailed from New York.47 Joshua was found on a passenger list on 27 August 1898 at the port of New York after having sailed from Liverpool, England on 20 August, 1898 on the S. S.      Joshua Mahony Jr. filled out a military census form 25 February 1917 Waterbury, Connecticut. The Connecticut “Military Census” was taken in 1917–1918 at the direction of the General Assembly with an eye to assessing manpower available for war and other resources in the state. The census included surveys on agriculture, factories, and even automobiles, but the forms included here are questionnaires filled out by men ages 16 and over. The census was much more than a simple name count, and these questionnaires asked for details in a number of areas: name, post office address, trade or profession, agemarital status, number of dependents, citizenship,military service, and physical disability.They also asked men to report on various skills, including whether they could ride a horse or drive a team, ride a motorcycle, operate a wireless, handle a steam engine or a boat, or swim well. This form showed that Joshua was 53 years old, single, and measured 5'7'' tall, and weighed 180 lbs. His occupation was described as a mechanic with prior experience as a brushmaker. He did not know how to ride a horse but could handle a team of them. He could not drive an automobile or motorcycle, understand telegraphy or operate electrical machinery among other things. He was also a fair swimmer.69
     Joshua Mahony Jr., age 59, appears as head of household in the census of 13 January 1920 in Waterbury, Connecticut, with his son, Ernest Mahony.6 Joshua and his son, Ernest Mahony resided in January 1920 at 49 Wood Street.      On 23 August 1934, the following appeared in the Waterbury Republican Newspaper:
Joshua Mahony, 74, died yesterday morning at his home, 49 Wood street.
Mr. Mahony was born in Sheffield, England but had resided in Waterbury for the past 50 years and was well known to many persons. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Nosahogan Lodeg of Odd Fellows, and of the New England Order of Protection. He is survived by two sons, Ernest Mahony of Waterbury and William Mahony of Los Angeles, Cal; one brother, Dr. J. W. Mahony of Milford, two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Roselius of Meriden and Mrs. Elizabeth Newbould of East Orange, N. J. and four grandchildren.
The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Clark funeral home, 20 State Steet, Rev. Richard Hegarty of the First Methodist Church officiating. The burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow evening between 7 and 9 o'clock.73
