Elizabeth and her daughter took in Mabel Littlehales in England when Clara died. They raised her in England until age 8 and Lily Burton came to the US with Mabel. The reason may have been to marry Joshua Mahony. After the death of his wife, Eliza Littlehales Mahony, Joshua went to England to possibly marry Lily. He probably knew her through Clara Knutton Litttlehales, his sister-in-law. Mabel lived with Lily and Joshua in Waterbury, CT and he adopted Mabel.24 Lily Burton was a housekeeper (This probably means homemaker). in March 1916 at Waterbury, Connecticut.25
     Lily died on 9 March 1916 at 51 Wood Street, Waterbury, Connecticut, from a diabetic coma lasting one day. According to the death certificate, she suffered from diabetes for 2 years..26,6 She's funeral was on 12 March 1916 at Waterbury, Connecticut. The following appeared in the Waterbury Republican Newspaper:The funeral of Mrs. Lillian Burton Mahoney will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at her late home, 51 Wood Street, the Reverend Horace B. Sloat officiating.27 She was buried on 12 March 1916 at Riverside Cemetery, Waterbury, Connecticut.28,29
