     John Charters Slavin Sr. graduated from Crosby High School at Waterbury, Connecticut, in 19609 and then was educated in 1964 at Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut, where he earned his bachelor's degree.10
     He enjoyed a long career, working in advertising and insurance11 and in his later years, he enjoyed woodworking and writing.12 He was a lifetime member of the Waterbury Lodge of Elks No. 265 and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.13 He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.14
     John Charters Slavin Sr. died on 21 March 2013 at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, Connecticut, at age 71.5 He was buried on 23 March 2013 at Connecticut.15
