Obituaries and Other News Articles

On 9 May 2017 The following obituary was published in the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper:
Lewis D. Carrington, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 4, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 64 years of Lois (VonTobel) Carrington.
Lew was born in Waterbury on May 7, 1934, the son of the late Lewis E. and Elizabeth (McKenna) Carrington.
Legend has it that Lew met Lois, the love of his life, in the newborn nursery. Childhood sweethearts, they married shortly after graduating from Wilby High School and began their wonderful journey through life.
Together they raised four children, Beverly and Paul Pashchuk of Nicholson, Pa; Brian and Denise Carrington of Wolcott; Cheryl and David Jensen of Waterbury; and Todd and Fran Carrington of Southington.
Besides his cherished wife and children, Lew is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Pashchuk, Kathy and Steve Dodge, Paul Pashchuk Jr., Gretchen and Ed Gunderson, Jason and Kelly Richmond, Natasha Pashchuk and Ashley Manion, Alex and Karyn Pashchuk, David C. Jensen, Sarah and Marc Boucher, Emily Jensen and her fiance, Cooper Brown, Samantha Carrington and Brianna Carrington.
Lew also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tristan, Steven, Monica, Paul, Regan, Andrew, Noah, Maya, Ryan, Conner, Emma, Oliver, Tyler, Anna and Lorelai.
Lew is also survived by his aunt, Grace Carrington Schum; his brother, Paul (Vee) Carrington; sisters-in-law, Sue Carrington, Patricia Perrin, Doris (Lloyd) Wellnitz, and Barbara VonTobel; as well as several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Besides his parents Lew was predeceased by his infant daughter, Wendy, his sister Betty Ann Carroll, and his brothers William and David Carrington.

Lew began his career as a teenage welder for Gowan-Knight in Waterbury but soon traded his welding tools for a salesman’s briefcase, working for Friden Business Machines. Lew won many sales awards and earned a managerial position until 1973, when he founded and became president of The Carrington Co., in partnership with his brother, Paul.

In 2001, after many successful and rewarding years, Lew retired from his company and he and Lois moved to the dream home they built together on Cape Cod.

In his earlier years, Lew loved to golf and was a member of the Country Club of Waterbury. He was also a member of the SERRA Club, the NAA, and past treasurer and current member of the Pochet Property Owners Association.

As well as golf, Lew loved traveling with Lois, fishing, swimming in the Pochet Beach waves, kayaking with Lois through the inlets of Cape Cod, and grilling amazing meals for his family and friends. He also loved woodworking and building projects and was very involved with both the building of his company headquarters in Southington and his beautiful Cape Cod home.

Lew was well known for his generosity and kindness and lent a helping hand to all, never refusing any requests from family or friends. He and Lois opened their home and arms to all without hesitation.

Lew’s most treasured times were spent with his beloved wife and family, who were all so blessed to have been able to spend time with him during his last few days, enveloped by his warmth, his love and his radiant smile.

Lew’s family would sincerely like to thank his array of doctors and health care workers at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Spaulding Rehab in Sandwich, Broadreach Rehab in Chatham, Orleans Fire and Rescue, RN Lisa from Kindred, RN Margo from VNA Hospice, David and Susan White and all of Lew’s “Pochet Family” for all their love and support.

A very special thanks to his devoted wife, Lois (mom) and his daughter, Cheryl, RN, (our sister) who spent countless hours with Dad transporting, visiting, caring for and comforting him throughout his difficulties these past few months. Their love and care assured Dad would remain happy, safe and dignified, while spending his final days at home, as was his wish.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 Robbins St., Waterbury, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be Thursday, May 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury. A memorial Mass will be at St. Joan of Arc Church, 61 Canal Road, Orleans, Mass., at a future date.3
